Bahuckel (Electron, 2024–2026)
The first generation. Web client, Electron desktop app, Node.js server. Retired.
Superseded by Bahuckel Relay.
The original Bahuckel proved the idea: an open, self-hosted community chat with voice and screen share, a modern dark UI, and no central service reading anyone’s messages. It shipped as a browser client, an Electron desktop app, and a Node.js server with SQLite in WASM.
Why it was retired
It worked, but it carried a browser engine in every install, the voice path went through WebRTC layers we did not control, and the server and marketing site were tangled together in one process. The rewrite as Bahuckel Relay keeps the ideas, drops the browser, and moves voice onto a purpose-built UDP relay with end-to-end sealed media.
